THE LIQUID ART OF MARSALA

SUSTAINABILITY Florio has always produced its Marsala us ing grapes that grow along the coasts of western Sicily. Everything starts from here, from vineyards overlooking the sea and ab sorbing its salinity and heat, grown while respecting the nature of the vine and the soil. These are the grapes we use to create Marsala, a sustainable wine, not only at the winemaking level but also in terms of the socio-economic life surrounding it. Marsala Florio falls within the DOC Marsala protect ed denomination, one of the oldest in Italy, which enriches an entire territory, supports its social fabric and enhances Marsala con sumption. The Florio Cellars, built in tuff stone and equipped with a natural ventila tion system, have always been an example of sustainable architecture, committed to the use of local raw materials and workers: long ago as it is today. Their maintenance and enhancement, and particularly their constantly being open to the public – which encourages knowledge of an important part of Sicilian production history – represent a fine example of cultural sustainability.

More than anything else, Marsala is an ar tistic thought. An act of love that embraces the idea of “creation” paving the way for a temporal dimension that stretches infinite ly. Each bottle of Marsala wine is intended for future consumption and is meant to last and continuously evolve, showing signs of growth and reaching a level of maturity that constantly balances nature and art, science and passion, magic and beauty. The grape harvest, hard pressing, and the love story between wine and alcohol. The place of aging, the barrels used, and the dis tance from the sea. Seasons that come and go, with prolonged aging in oak. In addi tion, frequent tastings and, most of all, the choices made by the oenologist who, using insight, traces one of the infinite paths that Marsala can take in order to reach full matu rity. The entire complex journey of Marsala towards expressing its individuality in the bottle is embodied in the Florio “narrative labels” of the New Geography product line.

Unlike other fortified wines such as Port and Sherry, in Marsala the acception "Fine" characterizes the lowest quality category of wine.

Florio produces only the two categories of Marsala from the highest quality: Vergine and Superiore.
