In 2023 this partnership combined with what was produced at Sagamore Farm led to over 1.2 million pounds (544.310 kg) of rye harvested in Maryland to be used in making Sagamore Rye Whiskey. In this symbiotic relationship, Sagamore Spir it and local farmers unite in a shared vision of excellence, ensuring the legacy of Maryland Rye endures for generations to come.
Our collaboration with local farmers is a tes tament to our commitment to community and sustainability. When the distillery was built in 2017, no local farmers were growing rye to harvest. It was purely used as a cover crop and then tilled to add important nutri ents like nitrogen back into the soil. Sagamore in 2018 began to rebuild the infrastructure of making rye whiskey through building local farm partnerships in Maryland.
